Quick Clinker – A Product and Personal Profile
Quick Clinker concept and trademark was conceived in 2006. The design did exist prior to this only as a concept, consisting of hand sketches and basic drawings. When the Cruising World Westlawn /Island Packet Yachts Design Competition was announced, the design was developed and entered. As it turned out, the design was good enough to win the competition. This was good incentive, and a confidence boost to progress the design and market the design package*.
*The design package not only includes detail drawings, it also includes nested cut files of all components needed to construct the vessel, plus cut files for templates and jigs. (See sample nests in the PDF brochure)
The Quick Clinker design has been developed by Richard Boult, whose background has been mainly in the commercial vessel arena, apart from a small stint working for Ben Lexcen in 1986/87. Richards’ work on commercial vessels included: high speed catamaran ferries (18 years), large motor yachts (4 years), and more recently refit work on research & Antarctic supply vessels. This work typically involved design, quality assurance, production support and coordination of either design or production. However yacht design has always been a strong interest and hobby with some small yacht projects completed on the side. For example: carbon fibre rudder design, two keel modifications, small motor yacht scantlings and a complete design for a 37’ racing yacht. (See other designs).
The designer is a qualified shipwright/boatbuilder, naval architect (certificate) and mechanical engineer (diploma). He is an active sailor, has competed in 7 Sydney to Hobarts’ and various national and state championships in a variety of one-design classes. He lives in Hobart, Tasmania, with his wife and 3 children, aged 10, 9 and 7.
